At the core of any nonprofit organization are people: volunteers, clients, staff members, fundraisers, donors, leadership, board members. Ways to engage with a nonprofit are often interwoven. With each layer of engagement comes a specific set of legal, ethical, and professional responsibilities. This practical course can help the nonprofit professional understand these responsibilities to ensure compliance and strategic community engagement. Topics include governance and legal issues, federal and state requirements, ethical decision-making frameworks and scenarios, ethics in volunteer management and professional fundraising, talent management and professional development, and more. Sarah R. Cowan has a decade of experience working with and supporting the nonprofit sector, as a staff member, volunteer, community partner, and board member. She holds an MPA in nonprofit management from Indiana University and a BA in communications magna cum laude from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn.
NOTE: This course will be offered via Zoom. Register now and then the day before class the instructor will send you the link to attend. Look for an email with "CFU Zoom class" in the subject line. A good internet connection and a computer or device with a camera and mic are needed.
