Whatever your work or volunteer setting, it is critical that you have a solid understanding of the concepts and practices involved in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). This 10-hour program is the recommended minimum requirement to empower professionals to become more proficient in DEI concepts, practices, goal setting, measures, and ideas to test locally. The certificate program covers key DEI concepts and skills building, and centers best practice DEI strategies within evidence-based organizational change models. The training is accessible to all professionals, regardless of position, previous training, or level of knowledge. It starts with the assumption that we are all socialized within environments (e.g., families, schools, communities) that influence our perceptions and practices. Becoming effective DEI practitioners involves lifelong resocialization in the form of continual exposure to best practices DEI concepts and dedication to building of skills that can mitigate harm in our perceptions and practices.
Training topics include:
  • Awareness building: Increase awareness of how unconscious bias, microaggressions, stereotype threat, privilege, power, oppression, identity and intersectionality shape human and organizational behavior.
  • Action, skills building: Learn to mitigate the impact of unconscious bias, microaggressions, stereotype threat, and so on through active allyship practices at the individual and organizational levels.
  • Organizational change: Learn how to set DEI goals, measures to track success, and ideas to test locally using the evidence-based model of improvement.
  • Community building to encourage sustainability: Engage in ongoing reflection and discussion of DEI goals, measures, and idea testing. Assess what worked, what didn’t work, and modifications to further advance DEI practices.
  • Social Justice Associates is a business whose mission is to empower people and organizations to thrive through just equity and inclusion practices.
