Effective public speaking involves more than just overcoming nerves; it requires mastery of voice technique to engage and persuade audiences. This course is for anyone who seeks to improve their public speaking skills and voice technique. Whether you're a professional looking to enhance your presentation abilities, reduce vocal strain, or simply want to overcome the fear of speaking in public, this course will meet your needs.

Course objectives:
  • Understand the root causes of public speaking anxiety and learn strategies to overcome it.
  • Develop proper breath control techniques to promote relaxation and confidence during speeches.
  • Improve delivery skills, including vocal projection, body language, and audience engagement.
  • Enhance voice technique to reduce strain, eliminate vocal fry, and maintain vocal health.
  • Provide a supportive environment for participants to practice and refine their public speaking abilities.

The course will be conducted virtually, utilizing an online platform to facilitate interactive learning experiences. The lesson session will include a combination of live lecture, group discussions, and breakout room activities. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in role-playing exercises, speech rehearsals, vocal exercises, and real-time feedback sessions, all from the comfort of their own homes. Elliott Murphy is an ASHA certified speech-language pathologist licensed in Colorado, California, and Alaska. He operates a tele-health practice, The Voice SLP, where he specializes in diagnosing and treating voice disorders, accent modification, fluency disorders, and transgender voice affirmation, as well as providing vocal hygiene education. Elliott is also an actor and improv performer.

Class time is in MT. Good internet connection and a laptop or device with camera and mic is needed. You should download Zoom in advance of class it is free to install, https://zoom.us/download. Look for an email from your instructor with the subject line CFU Zoom class for the link. Be ready to log on and join the meeting 5-10 minutes prior to the class start time so you will be ready when class begins.
