Monoprinting is a printmaking technique that yields a single, unique image with each print. It is known for its creative freedom and its ability to produce beautiful, layered prints. In this beginner-friendly, fun and spontaneous class, we will learn to use the gel plate as our printing medium. The process involves applying paint or ink to the gel plate, creating textures and patterns, and then transferring the image to paper or fabric. Monoprints can be displayed as unique pieces of art or used as elements of other mixed media creations. Each student will leave class with 10 - 20 prints depending on the level of detail. Each session looks in depth at a different technique and can be taken individually. Printing with Botanicals - explores using flowers and leaves to create beautiful, detailed, nature-inspired prints. Stencils and Masks - explores the use of stencils and masks as tools to create interesting multi-layer prints. Using Paint Alternatives and Adding Texture - explores the use paint alternatives such as ink, pastels, and oxides to create prints. Additionally, various tools for adding texture will be used.
Lisa MacKenzie is an artist and teacher. She loves exploring all kinds of ways to make art. She provides students with an open space to learn new skills and experiment with art supplies.
