This class will teach you how to confidently capture and edit stunning travel photos with your camera, whether it be a professional SLR or your iPhone. Whether you're exploring a bustling city or a quiet mountain trail, you'll gain the skills to create images you'll be proud to share with friends and family. More importantly, you'll learn how to preserve the memories of the people, places, and moments that made your trip unforgettable-so you can relive the experience long after you've returned home.

The class includes demonstration and interactive discussion. We'll start with a discussion of equipment and then move onto the basics of the camera: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. We'll explore what makes a compelling composition, discussing focal point, rule of thirds, symmetry, contrast, and common mistakes. The first part of class ends with an exploration of visual elements to take account of in your photos: line, shape, and form; pattern and texture, tone and color, and white space. In the second part of the course, we'll cover proper lighting and then move on to telling a story, with an emphasis on subject choice and flow. Wrap up with an exploration of ways you can present your photos when you return from your trip-including editing, how to cull, and options for showcasing your best work.

McCory James has been a professional photographer for 20 years. He has his own business and has taught photography at the college level. He has traveled to all 50 states and visited over 30 countries, taking photos. He loves his work and is eager to share the skills that can take your travel photos to the next level.

Students may bring their camera to class, but not required. There will be an hour break for lunch.
