When it comes to culture, we tend to think of race or ethnicity, but culture is composed of so much more. This workshop invites you to reflect on your own culture and share with others in a conversation intended to build self-awareness, humility, and historical and societal context for our own identities. Contrary to common myths, the fundamental principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) include everyone, regardless of who they are. We'll talk about the assumptions we make based on identities and examine stereotypes and microaggressions in an environment free from blame, guilt, and shame. After establishing that we all have many identities, we will explore how the power and privilege intrinsic to our identities can cause varying barriers from and access to opportunities. In the final part of the workshop, we'll discuss "aware allyship". Join us for a conversation that has the potential to enlighten you and inspire your journey toward awareness, compassion, and change.
